HKRMA Annie Yau Tse: 90%+ of Members Expect Retail Mkt to Be Flattish/ Rise During LNY

The total value of retail sales in December 2025 rose by 6.6% YoY, below the market consensus of 7.9%, mainly due to the fire at the Wang Fuk Court at the end of November, Annie Yau Tse, Chairman of the Hong Kong Retail Management Association (HKRMA), said. However, she remained confident about the retail market during the Lunar New Year (LNY). The overall consumption sentiment in the market has gradually recovered since December, she added. The HKRMA collected opinions from its members regarding the LNY, and the feedback was mostly positive, with over 90% believing the market will be flattish or rise, while the decline is expected to be less than 10%.
